In the days before he started slowing down, Eli was no stranger to running his vehicle into stationary objects—so he became quite familiar with what a concussion felt like. He was wearing his seatbelt and his airbag deployed, but a sudden burst of speed followed closely by a complete lack of speed would leave most people rattled.

While Eli was minding his head, the driver of the vehicle parked behind him—who did not happen to be Sarah—was concluding their phone conversation with the 911 dispatcher.

When the incident occurred, Earnest Aquilla was driving a tractor behind Eli and Sarah’s van. As he explained to the operator, he had a dash cam that recorded the whole event, including Sarah’s NEMT van not slowing down at all for the accident in which she played the principal part.

After checking in with Eli, Earl calmly explained who he was (and was not). He said to Eli what he saw and that the police were on their way as he already called 911.

Eli was grateful to Earnest for what he did, yet his disposition soured as he realized his attempt at teaching someone a lesson had taken such an unfortunate turn.
